Limerick Contest

The annual Limerick Contest was announced in the Richmond Times-Dispatch this past Sunday. If you followed this blog last year you might recall that I entered and shared my creation. If you want to enter you can get an entry form from the paper or the local R-TD offices.
A Limerick, as defined by the R-TD is a humorous five-line poem. Lines 1, 2 and 5 have seven to ten syllables and rhyme with one another. Lines 3 and 4 have five to seven syllables and also rhyme with each other. The challenge is to create your own Limerick using the at least 2 of the words provided by the R-TD. I'm not sure who the knuckle-head is that selected the words, but I think they have spent too much time sucking on that Blarney Stone. If you're interested in giving it a stab, the words are (and I'm providing the Miriam Webster definitions):
  1. Schism - formal division in or separation from a church or religious body
  2. Quixotic - foolishly impractical especially in the pursuit of ideals
  3. Ablution - the washing of one's body or part of it (as in a religious rite)
  4. Tocsin - an alarm bell or the ringing of it
  5. Cosset - (noun) a pet lamb; or a (transitive verb) to treat as a pet, pamper
  6. Zeitgeist - the general intellectual, moral, and cultural climate of an era
  7. Stolid - having or expressing little or no sensibility
Are you freaking kidding me?
Entries are due on March 9, 2009

People Please!!

I thought I'd share a few snippets of annoyance I ran across recently. Or rather I just want to vent them to you:

  • Friends that make plans to get together and don't show. Thanks for letting me hang, I needed the rest.
  • Cancer taking Tony Snow, much too early in life.
  • People that throw trash into my yard. Why? I have a perfectly good trash can on the side of the house not 10 feet from where you dropped it.
  • The ugly transsexual prostitutes are back. As opposed to the pretty one's I suppose. bleck.
  • My neighbor self-painted her house a wonderful shade of vomit yellow. Nice! I much preferred the lighter version of puke yellow.
  • My government stimulus check arrived today. The teller asked me what I would spend it on. "None of your business, you nosey son of a bitch!" I'm so mean some times.
  • I handed the gas station clerk $40 and ask for $35 in gas on pump #6. She asked me "Why not the entire $40 honey?" Oh dear... "Sweetie listen, when I need you to spend my money, I'll let you know!"
  • A co-worker asked me if I had missed her being absent. Why do people ask me questions, to which I'm going to give an honest answer? ..."No!"
  • And, just so you know that I can hold my tongue... a rather handsome fellow touched me today in a nice hello patting sort of way. While I wanted to tell him to do that again... I didn't because I was at work... and don't think that didn't annoy me either.
  • How was your Monday?

Virginia General Assembly

I do not understand politics.
I do not understand the people that represent me/us.
There used to be a term given to politicians that represented their constituents irregardless of their own views. The word that was used was "Statesmen." Or at least that is my understanding.
All I see are selfish bickering time-wasting bodies that are in the General Assembly.
-
The General Assembly has been in session since mid-January. I'm sure they have completed a lot for good. I'm also fairly certain that they have made decisions they have no business making decisions on. But what I don't understand is this, and I would like to know the answer:
-
Why doesn't the General Assembly focus on the State Budget as their first item on the agenda. And until that is complete, not move onto the other items at hand?
-
Your move...
