Drat

Baby Daffodils, and by that I mean the dwarf variety are one of my favorites. So, last year when I got an opportunity to get a boatload for free I grabbed them. Well they didn't like the process of being uprooted and replanted last year and just went to sleep for the season. I figured they would be stressed, that is why I planted them in a nursery. I was all excited this year. Waiting for their little green arms to reach through the ground like they are yawning. The past two weeks they have done just that. Unfortunately, I think that I'll only be getting arms and no dills. When it comes to plants, I can be extremely patient. *One more year little ones and I'm sure you'll mature into the glorious daffs that I know you are.* Funny, I think I feel a bit like my daffodils, a bit puny.

Momma's Day

Dahlias
--
Mother's Day is upon us. You can send mom flowers. Or you can send mom flowers that will bloom again. Hunt down blooming bulbs that are attached to the bulb. Just sending the stem sends a dying flower. Sending an intact plant sends a renewing purchase for you and a colorful return for mom.

Now that's thoughtful. Isn't she worth the extra effort?

Daffodils

I think I'm becoming disappointed. I planted bulbs in the fall and I only see a few popping up. By a few, I mean three. And I planted about 40. Mostly Daffodils and a smattering of Tulips and Firecrackers. The Firecrackers still have time to pop up since they are late bloomers. But the Daffy's should be up by now. A friend gave me some of her daffodils and they seemed to have stressed from the replanting. So I'll be patient until next year for those. I'll have to keep you posted.

On a good note, the Hostas seem to want to grow. I can see them breaking free of Mother earth. Those are from New York. My daddy dug them from his yard. One of them should grown monster huge. I can't wait to see it do it's thing. Big big big.

Pretty Flowers

Today is February 27th. We are still in the middle of winter here in Richmond Virginia. My Purple Bearded Iris' are trying to make their mark on 2008, about 2 months too soon. The winter has been fairly mild and plenty more cold days are upon us. I am a bit worried that the pending cold snap(s) is/are going to ruin these beauties this year. We'll just have to see what Mother has in store.

My father's family is originally from Greenwood, South Carolina. Home of The Park Seed Company. Since there is an emotional attachment to that area, I tend to buy my plants from there or another site. But today, I support Park Seed, and I thought I might suggest that you do as well. Take a looksie inside.

I'm preparing to plant some seeds in my basement that I will transplant out into my yard this year. I'm trying to get back into touch with my inner gardner. I'll keep you posted as things progress. Who wants to challenge me to a mini garden-off?
